Jungle Club tennis students support Hope for Families’ emergency shelter program for Homeless Families
Students of Coach Gerry Berkheimer of the Jungle Club collected pledges and played 12 hours of tennis on March 18, raising $1,000 to support The Hope for Families Center (HFC) Shelter Program.
“This is a win-win for our students,” explained Berkheimer. “The event gives the players a full day of tennis training, while giving back to the community. We chose to support HFC because it is an organization that helps people who are willing to make the effort to change their lives, create a better life for their children and become contributing members of the community.”
“The tennis marathon is an example of one of the resourceful ways that local businesses and clubs support our Shelter Program,” said Diana Grossi, HFC Executive Director.
Businesses or local organizations that would like to learn more about hosting an event to support HFC, can contact Lydia Lander at 772-567-5537 or llander@HFCvero.org.
About The Hope for Families Center
The Hope for Families Center is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that provides safe shelter, nutritious meals, basic necessities and specialized client services that stabilize families in crisis and provides parents with the opportunity to take that first step from financial instability and homelessness toward financial stability and permanent housing.
All of the children living at HFC are enrolled in school, child care or camps throughout school breaks.
Over the past 9 months, 78 families have completed the program and are now living independently in stable homes, thanks to the support of individual donors and grants from Grand Harbor Community Outreach, John’s Island Community Service League, John’s Island Foundation, United Way of Indian River County and Leo & Peggy Pierce Family Foundation.
